Digital health · FHIR · HIE — Cape Town

I make national health systems talk to each other.

Sixteen years building the FHIR pipelines, HIE mediators, and national exchanges that let hospital systems, registries, and reporting platforms share a patient's story — the same systems-thinking that carries into payment rails, cloud infrastructure, and e-commerce at scale.

Bio

Engineer first, lead by necessity, builder by nature

I'm a technical lead at Symbionix, a Cape Town consultancy, embedded end-to-end with HealthTech and FinTech clients — owning architecture, leading small teams, and staying hands-on in the code. Before that: three years leading a team that kept The Iconic's fulfilment systems running through Australia's biggest shopping days, and seven years at Jembi Health Systems taking health-interoperability platforms from developer-level code to national HIE architecture across Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia — including a stretch as OpenHIM core contributor and technical trainer in Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Solo presenter at the Jembi OpenHIM Platform Connectathon 2024 — walking stakeholders through a full continuity-of-care flow, live, across the whole stack.

Claude Code, MCP, and agentic workflows are part of how I ship now, not a side interest — from a custom MCP server coordinating multi-model pipelines to an open-source Claude Code skill that turns requirements into specs.

Away from the keyboard the building continues at a different scale: a koi pond with named residents, a solar and battery system I monitor a little too closely, and a home-automation setup on a Raspberry Pi. I like systems I can see working.
